The site at a glance
In Olhão, not far from the Algarve in the very south of Portugal, the K+S subsidiary VATEL S.A. primarily processes sea salt and evaporated salt into consumer products. The VATEL® consumer brand is well-known and popular throughout Portugal.
In Olhão, 25 to 37 employees process mainly supplied sea salt into consumer products - primarily table salt, flor de sal (better known here as fleur de sel) and traditional sea salt products for the Portuguese market. The products of the traditional consumer brand VATEL®, which has been around in Portugal since 1915, come from here. In addition, evaporated salt of table salt quality is filled into shakers (bulk tins) for the retail trade here.
The product range of the K+S subsidiary VATEL S.A. includes sea salt and table salt products as well as dishwasher salt and industrial salt.
With the joint venture of esco - european salt company between K+S and Solvay in 2002, the Olhão site joined the K+S Group.
