Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Core Systems Maintenance Superintendent, the Instrumentation Supervisor is responsible to manage a team of Instrumentation Technicians on-site from a performance, budgeting, and safety point of view.  This individual works with the other Maintenance Supervisors, Planners and Contractors to schedule and coordinate the daily work assignments according to the weekly maintenance schedule. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Supervisory Responsibilities - 50%:

  • Oversee and mentor direct reports by fostering continuous growth through daily engagement and a structured performance management process. Promote skill enhancement and safety awareness within the team.

  • Coordinate with planners to review job scopes and conduct pre-task inspections, ensuring work areas are prepared and potential conflicts are identified for streamlined execution.

  • Issue Safe Work Permits as the designated requestor, participate in daily coordination meetings with production teams, and ensure compliance with all safety permits and requirements.

  • Inspect completed tasks to verify compliance with site standards and industry best practices, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to safety guidelines.

  • Collaborate with maintenance coordinators to align on scheduling needs, respond to urgent work requests, and ensure crew availability aligns with weekly and long-term plans.

  • Monitor the training and certification levels of the crew to uphold technical competencies, managing Local Safety Override (LSO) records for each team member.

  • Administer crew schedules, managing vacation, absenteeism, overtime, and on-call rotations, while supporting resource allocation to meet workload demands.

Leadership Responsibilities - 25%:

  • Lead daily safety toolbox discussions, providing critical safety updates and emphasizing adherence to all safety protocols to minimize risks during operations.

  • Actively assist crew members during task execution by supplying necessary tools and consumables, offering guidance for troubleshooting, and supporting efficient problem resolution.

  • Continuously coach the crew on safe work practices, reinforcing a safety-first approach and leading investigations into any safety incidents to identify root causes.

  • Lead monthly crew safety meetings, fostering open communication on safety topics, reinforcing best practices, and cultivating a proactive safety culture within the team.

Change Management Responsibilities - 10%:

  • Provide constructive feedback on completed tasks to planners, contributing to the refinement of job plans and the continuous improvement of maintenance operations.

  • Identify and address recurring system issues, working closely with Core Systems Reliability Specialists and Plant Engineering to develop and implement sustainable solutions.

  • Identify the need for and assist in creating work instructions and job aids, enhancing procedural clarity and ensuring that crew members have the resources for efficient task execution.

Safety Responsibilities 15%:

  • Conduct regular audits of crew work areas, reviewing adherence to Safe Work Permits, Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO), and hazard assessments to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Ensure the availability and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specialty tools necessary for the crew to complete technical tasks.

Requirements

Your Profile

Our company values and recognizes the diversity of the workforce and encourages individuals with the equivalent combination of education and work experience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician or Engineering Technologist with 5+ years of combined experience.

  • 5+ years’ experience in a heavy industrial process setting.

  • 2+ years’ technical supervisory experience.

  • 2+ years’ experience in conflict management.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Valid class 5 drivers licence

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Additional Skills:

  • Employs judgement in managing, organizing, and fulfilling tasks within established boundaries, with a focus on adaptability and resilience in changing circumstances.

  • Demonstrates well-developed and effective relationship-building skills (participates in a team, actively shares knowledge, respects differences of opinions, receives feedback openly displays a reasoned perspective and brings resolution to issues while considering all areas of impact).

  • Exhibits a proactive approach in identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks through proficient diagnosis and resolution of emerging issues, utilizing data interpretation to inform effective decision-making and ensuring adherence to quality control and safety standards.

  • Employs logical and analytical thinking to navigate complex problems, effectively influencing team members towards the implementation of safety-oriented practices and quality standards, thereby fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and generate detailed technical documentation, reports, and methodologies.

  • Provides training and support to less experienced colleagues, ensuring that procedures are both current and accurate, and overseeing the quality of team members' work to maintain high standards.
