Engineering & Maintenance
The employees in engineering and maintenance attend to the design, assembly and maintenance of all the installations, devices, and machines in the value-added chain – whether it involves mining technology, processing plants, or (electro)technical equipment. In addition, they develop new standards and procedures and use these to find solutions for technical problems and to improve the technology used for maintenance. A large variety of technical projects are planned and carried out for this purpose.
Work can be easily integrated into everyday life, even if you have to go to work at 6am in the morning, you have more free time in the afternoon. The fact that I have a lot of friends at work makes it easy to combine work with leisure."
The occupational field of technology and maintenance
This field is subdivided into civil engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering, and process engineering. These are described in more detail below.
Civil engineering
Civil engineering is responsible for all construction projects carried out by the Company. This includes planning, costing, scheduling, managing and executing construction and infrastructure activities. Civil engineering employees prepare construction plans and check drawings in accordance with established laws. They also survey ongoing construction work and recommend corrective measures, if necessary. In doing so, they ensure that all the construction projects run smoothly.
Other tasks
- Preparing the final planning documents and assuming responsibility for designing components
- Maintaining the buildings and property at our sites
- Analyzing and checking documents with respect to existing regulations and standards
- Groupwide planning and coordination of engineering services in the field of structural engineering
- Surveying ongoing construction works to ensure that they comply with the specifications
Energy, electrical engineering, and power plant technology
Energy, electrical engineering and power plant technology is responsible for improving the electrical systems and energy technical systems both above and below ground in particular, as well as developing technical concepts for EI&C technology, communications engineering, energy, power plant and railway technology, and mining machinery.
Other tasks
- Guaranteeing the supply of electrical energy and securing (tele)communication channels at the sites
- Provision and optimal procurement of grid-bound energy
- Maintaining the electrotechnical systems at our sites
- Developing, monitoring and implementing guidelines, standards and the framework for guaranteeing the processes/procedures throughout the Group
- Improving the energy, power plant and EI&C systems at the plants, as well as optimizing the telecommunications systems and networks
- Checking investment activities and maintenance work
- Monitoring ongoing projects to ensure they comply with the specifications
Mechanical engineers
Mechanical and process technology is responsible for optimizing and developing new production procedures and systems at K+S. It provides mechanical and electromechanical machines, equipment and facilities. It also maintains them and assesses them to determine how cost-effective and efficient they are.
Other tasks
- Developing, monitoring and implementing guidelines, standards and the framework for guaranteeing the processes/procedures throughout the Group
- Maintaining the process systems at our sites
- Optimizing the process systems above and below ground
- Planning and implementing concepts for machine technology and procedures
- Groupwide planning and coordination of engineering services and developments in the machine technology division
- Improving production procedures and systems
- Monitoring ongoing projects to ensure they comply with the specifications
