Around 821 million people are affected by hunger worldwide. The problem could continue to worsen as growing population and changing consumer behavior in emerging markets will increase demand for food. At the same time, climate change and inefficient land use is leading to ever decreasing arable land.
“There’s a real chance to provide nutrition to every person in this world in sufficient quantity and quality. Tremendous effort is needed in order to achieve this goal however. With FUTURE FOOD FORUM, on October 16, we will be offering a platform for the exchange of ideas for combating hunger and securing global nutrition for the long-term”, says Dr. Burkhard Lohr, CEO of K+S Aktiengesellschaft.
For the third time, K+S and Handelsblatt are the drivers behind the sustainable and secure food theme on World Food Day. This year, they are bringing this theme to the stage at Berlin’s AXICA Congress and Convention Center.
The focus of the day will be on creative ideas and sustainable strategies for securing world food. This theme will be discussed in an active dialogue with Handelsblatt editors and clearly presented with the help of multimedia elements. The keynote speakers will be Dr. Gerd Müller, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr. Tassos Haniotis, Director of Strategy Simplification and Policy Analysis at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as Arif Husain, Chief Economist and Head of Analysis and Trends in food safety at the United Nations World Food Program, and Prof. Bert Rürup, President of the Handelsblatt Research Institute.
