Focusing on Sustainability and Inclusion
Before handing over no longer needed hardware to the AfB Group, the K+S Second Life unit checks whether the hardware can be reused internally or if a transfer between K+S locations would be beneficial. Selling the no longer needed hardware generates positive effects for the locations, such as minimizing disposal or decommissioning costs.
Between January 1 and December 31, 2024, the AfB Group processed 2,469 IT and mobile devices handed over by K+S IT Kassel. During processing, the mostly still functional hardware is certified erased, refurbished, equipped with the latest operating system, and sold. In 2024 alone, the AfB Group was able to remarket 98% of the no longer needed notebooks through ReUse. By avoiding new production, not only are emissions reduced, but devices that cannot be remarketed are also properly dismantled.
Furthermore, used hardware at AfB is not only "green" but also "social," as the exchanged IT hardware created 3 inclusive jobs.
AfB is Europe's largest non-profit IT company, specializing in refurbishing and remarketing or recycling used business IT. This conserves the environment and saves valuable resources. AfB stands for "Work for People with Disabilities." All process steps are barrier-free, as people with and without disabilities work hand in hand at AfB.
