Our path to greenhouse gas neutrality
Greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045
We were able to update our previous target of reducing emissions by a further 10 % by 2030 compared to 2020 through several major measures.
We now expect to reduce our emissions by 2030 instead of 10 % compared to 2020 and to achieve a 25 % reduction in our CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2 of the manufacturing sites) compared to the baseline year in the same period. In addition, we want to reduce emissions by 60 % by 2040 and achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045.
Our path to greenhouse gas neutrality (base year: 2020)
-
2030 Emission reduction of 25 %
-
2040 Emission reduction of 60 %
-
2045 Greenhouse gas neutrality
Measures and projects
For decades, we have been working to increase the energy efficiency of our plants, including through the consistent expansion of combined heat and power (CHP). Through this comprehensive expansion and the associated switch from coal to natural gas, as well as extensive energy efficiency measures and capacity reductions, we have already significantly reduced our direct CO2 emissions over the past three decades. Our Werra 2060 transformation project also enables us to save more energy than originally anticipated.
