Neuhof-Ellers is the southernmost plant of K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmbH in Germany and is also known as the "specialty plant". The plant distinguishes itself above all in the production of fertilizer specialties, the main product being Korn-KALI®. With its central location in the middle of Europe, the location has a great advantage for supplying the important European agricultural markets.

The site at a glance

The Neuhof-Ellers plant, with its approximately 700 employees, including about 50 trainees, is one of the most important regional employers and ensures stable added value through the production of potash and magnesium fertilizer specialties. In addition, the plant regularly places orders for supplies and services with companies in the vicinity of the site and thus provides the economic basis for a large number of regional jobs. Its social commitment applies to social institutions, associations and clubs, especially for the promotion of youth and sports.

History of the potash plant

1900 - First exploratory drilling

1906 - 1909 - Drilling of Neuhof shaft

1910 - Start of production at the Neuhof plant

1912 - 1921 - Drilling of Ellers shaft

1921 - Start of production at the Ellers plant

1926 - Closure as a result of the streamlining of the potash industry

1953 - 1954 - Reconstruction of the facilities below and above ground; deepening of the Neuhof shaft up to 602 m

1954 - Resumption of production at the Neuhof-Ellers plant

1974 - Commissioning of the world's first ESTA plant

1995 - Extraction of the 100 millionth ton of crude salt from the Neuhof shaft

2003 - Completion of the new social building

2006 - 100th anniversary of the Neuhof-Ellers potash plant

2013 - Commissioning of the salt water pipeline Neuhof-Philippsthal

2016 - Record extraction and production of 4 million tonnes of crude salt
